Nathaniel Douglas Sutfin

Nathaniel Douglas Sutfin was the brother-in-law of Harriet Deuel Swayze.  His wife, Aldula, was Harriet's sister. He served in the Civil War and died on his way home from the hospital.  His son, George Sutfin, also served.   There are letters from George, but none from Nathaniel.  There are numerous letters from Aldula which mention the children.

    Lorinda Sutfin
    Born:  Feb 21, 1855
    1860 Census:  Not listed, but would have been 5 years old.
    Pension Files:  Listed as child under 16 years old.
    1870: Census:  Listed with her mother, Aldula Sutfin.
    (Lorinda & Malinda possibly same child.)
    Lorinda married Isaac Monroe, brother of Charity Monroe, who married
    Lorinda's brother, John L. Sutfin.

Enrolled:  May 1,1861, Dryden, NY.  Occupation Farmer.  
Discharged:  With Disability, Sept 7, 1862, Philadelphia, PA.
Private, Co. E, 32 NY Infantry, Lt. Frank Godine's Company 
Taken sick as a consequence of over exertion and exposure in the line of duty in
the battle before Richmond, July 1862.  Admitted to Satterlee General Hospital in Philadelphia,  Aug 10, 1862.  Remained in the hospital until discharged.   His brother, George Sutfin, was present at discharge.  He was with him when he died, aboard the train at Port Clinton, PA, while on his way home.
