Luke Evans was a nephew of Harriet Deuel.   His mother, Mary Deuel Evens, was Harriet's sister.  He had two brothers,  Earl and Clark , who served in the Civil War.  There are from Clark & Earl but none from Luke. Luke had six siblings.  When their father died some of the children went to live with other families and were taught to spell their name Evans.  The letters of Mary Evens also mention her son, Luke, and her concerns when he was captured and in Andersonville Prison.  In later letters she was concerned about his health and very disappointed that she would never have the opportunity to see any of his children.
